ABSTRACT. -- Frequency of banding was examined in populations of the introduced gastropod, Otala lactea, from central Texas. Banding frequency among 13 populations ranged from 13 percent to 51 percent. Frequency of banding did not differ between estivating snails collected during dry conditions and active snails collected during wet conditions. Progeny from banded snails displayed a higher proportion of banding than progeny from unbanded snails, suggesting that presence or absence of bands is a genetically determined trait in this species.
